Using somatic skills—practices that bring awareness to and intentionally work with the body—can dramatically improve quality of life because they directly address the body–mind connection rather than treating thoughts and emotions as separate from physical states. The mind-body connection cannot be "disconnected". In addition to the traditional "talk therapies" that utilize questions to help the mind process. Somatic therapy integrates the body WITH the mind. The integration of psychoeducation of somatic skills, experiencing change IN session will give you the tools to improve your overall mental, emotional and physical health for the remainder of your life. Somatic skills work because they create a feedback loop—regulating the body calms the mind, and a calmer mind helps keep the body regulated. This synergy improves health, emotional well-being, and daily functioning.

Yes you can! There are lot's of great resources available for free you can access. If you live a busy life however, it may be difficult to set aside the time to self-teach. I've found that my clients appreciate having a designated hour for themselves with a professional, one on one body. We will look at how your body responds to the skills in real time to make adjustments as needed.
Dance, yoga, any "bilateral movement" (ie jogging, walking, swimming), Tai Chi, stretching, pelvic floor relaxation techniques. The key is to PAY ATTENTION as you are doing these activities. Learn from the body what works and what creates more stress.
The answer to this question depends on the cumulative amount of stress leading to session. If you've lived a "life of stress" due to your childhood being traumatic, working shift work or a stressful job, living in a high contentious environment... your body will likely respond gradually to the treatment. Often my clients who've dealt with chronic stress say that see immediate benefit, yet their bodies "go back" to being tight. This is normal (ie because your body has learned to be tight to protect itself). WIth patience and practice (and perhaps some environmental changes as needed) I have no doubts that your body can achieve a more consistent regulation WITH consistent attending to it.
EMDR, IFS, DBT, CBT, ACT... Really any 'thinking based' therapies go great with Somatic work. However, SOMATIC WORK SHOULD BE THE FOUNDATION of all other therapies.. in my humble professional opinion.
